Our need to “self express” is deeply human. It is a key to our creativity and having a life that has meaning.
It’s also key to both our spiritual growth and our worldly contribution.
Your voice is your primary instrument of self expression, yet you normally take it for granted.
So much of our culture conspires against your full self expression – cultural expectations of women (and men), the things you were told as a child, traumatic events that caused you to shut down, your own perceptions of how you’re “supposed” to sound.
I call these “voice stories” – unconscious decisions you’ve made about how to sound (or NOT to sound), and about how you can speak, that cause you to hold your voice back.
I’m on a mission to bring back your full self expression, and I’ve discovered that opening up your voice is an overlooked, underutilized way to do it.
When Connie came to work with me, she had a very small, quiet voice. We met in Zumba class, and she would always stand in the back. She never smiled. If she came in late, we never noticed her coming in.
She felt that people didn’t listen to her, and told me that people would often talk over her.
Now, she was not a tiny woman, nor was she any kind of dummy. She was a CFO in between jobs.
As I worked with her to increase the volume and expression in her voice, we uncovered her core voice story. When she tried speaking up more, she thought she was yelling. It turns out she was told all the time as a child that “girls should be seen and not heard.”
She internalized that message, and it completely governed the way she spoke. She couldn’t use much volume or expression because she wasn’t supposed to be heard.
As soon as we uncovered that unconscious story, she began to open up her voice. She now had the option to speak with power, strength and passion.
She used her “power voice” in an interview, and landed a new job. She started taking the lead at work in ways she had never done before. People stopped talking over her, and actually listened.
She calmly and firmly set boundaries with her family members – her adult son still living at home, her brother living with her in between jobs, her dad she was caring for, and her sister.
She also had a creative explosion. She started writing poetry and drawing.
She also became a spiritual mentor for a young man she knew.
She stood in the front at Zumba class, and smiled, and smiled, and smiled.
In short: When she opened up her voice, her whole life opened up.
When you hold your voice back, you hold yourSELF back. Where are you holding YOUR voice back?
Your voice is you, at the most fundamental levels. When you open up YOUR voice, what else will open up for you? I know from my experience with hundreds of women, that your creativity will FLOW, and you’ll receive benefits you never expected.
From my commitment to empower all women, I remind you that you have a purpose, a mission, a WORK that you are called to – even if it’s not clear to you yet.
Go toward it. Stop hiding out and playing small. Open up your voice. Uncover and release your voice stories, so you can step into your calling.
“Ariana has such thorough knowledge in so many areas that my entire program was really holistic. After we uncovered the voice story that had me speaking in a small voice, I learned to find my “power voice.” My whole life opened up. I got a new job, started taking the lead at work with assurance, improved all my family relationships, and started writing poetry and drawing.
I now have a voice that speaks the authority and wisdom within me, and I look forward to sharing and teaching the lessons of my life’s journey. If it is important to you to really be HEARD and to be truly compelling in your spoken communications, then I recommend Ariana.” – Connie Cahlil
I spoke at an event just the other night. A woman there talked about how men never seemed to listen to her, and what a wound that was in her life. She had a high, little-girl voice without much conviction in it.
Men (and women, unfortunately), have the voice story that women’s voices are not important to listen to. I don’t know this woman’s story, but even women with a naturally higher voice can speak with power and authority so they can be truly heard and understood.
I would be honored to be your guide in the journey of reclaiming your full, authentic self expression through your voice. It might be the most important work you’ve ever done for yourself.
