The Art of Serendipity

January 7, 2016 by admin

IMG_0489Want to be creative? Cultivate the art of Serendipity!

Serendipity is such a wonderful word, isn’t it?

It makes me think of happy chance, and it’s related in my mind to synchronicity, another word I love.

I just found out that we can actually cultivate serendipity. This is exciting to me! Here’s a lovely story about the origin of the word:

In 1754, Horace Walpole wrote some thoughts on a Persian fairy tale that entranced him about 3 princes from the Isle of Serendip who had extraordinary powers of observation. Walpole suggested this tale contained an important idea about human genius: “As their highnesses travelled, they were always making discoveries, by accident and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of.” (NYTimes 1/3/16) He proposed the word “serendipity” to describe this talent.

So, serendipity is not something that happens to us by dumb luck. It’s something we DO. It’s about paying attention, casting a wider net, allowing plans to change based on a feeling, using an accidental encounter or happening to chart a new path or open new doors, or make new discoveries.

It means that having too narrow a focus or being too perfectionistic can actually prevent you from finding creative solutions to problems in your business and in your life.Continue Reading

Never, Ever, UNDERCHARGE Again!

June 1, 2015 by admin

IMG_2025Memorial Day has come and gone and summer is officially upon us and you know what that means… Travel! Packing your bags and heading off for some quality time to recharge and rejuvenate.

Let me ask you a question – when was the last time YOU took time off from your business to take a vacation?

Unfortunately, for many heart centered entrepreneurs, travel is viewed as a luxury and it gets put off because our schedules are jammed packed with marketing activities in an effort to get more clients.

Many entrepreneurs don’t realize how mentally, physically and financially worn down they are truly are AND most make the common mistake that taking on MORE clients is the only solution to fix the problem.

From personal experience I can tell you… It’s NOT!

Taking on more clients only means that you will have less free time for yourself. The answer is not more clients, it’s getting help to create a pricing strategy so you make more money with less clients!Continue Reading

How To Handle Sales Rejection With Grace

by Ariana Newcomer

Have you ever gone into a sales conversation with a prospective client DREADING the whole thing? I have.

The fear of rejection is a powerful one, and it is what stops most women entrepreneurs from getting more clients.

Rejection can trigger deep, core emotions, and even make us feel our survival is in question. We learned to avoid situations that could cause us to feel threatened this way – to protect our tender, inner selves.

As entrepreneurs, however, we have to grow past these self-imposed limitations. I’ve written before about “Business As A Transformational Journey.” Getting past and transforming our fear of rejection in sales conversations is crucial to our success.

We need to let go of what one of my mentors calls “spiritual stubbornness,” too. For spirit-driven entrepreneurs, fear of rejection mingles with the story that money shouldn’t even be part of what we do, which can cause almost total paralysis, along with big time resentment and the pain of not succeeding in our deep purpose.

I can’t tell you how many times I hear these stories from my clients: “I shouldn’t charge for what I do because it’s my calling,” or “my gift” or “I should just be giving this away if I’m really spiritual.”

As we shift into embracing money as part of our spiritual path, along with using the strategies I’m going to give you today, we open up wonderful possibilities for ourselves – not just in our businesses, but in all our relationships, and in our spiritual dimension as well.

Growing in this specific area helps us let go of old patterns of self doubt and feeling unworthy that we definitely don’t need to carry around anymore!

Would you like to handle sales rejection with grace?

Great! I’ve got 3 strategies for you to step into your power in sales conversations when you feel threatened by rejection.Continue Reading

Why You Need To Add VIP Days To Your Business

I love doing VIP days with my clients. Here’s why YOU need to add them to your biz:

  • You can implement them immediately, and use them over and over again.
  • Give your business a quick infusion of cash anytime you need it.
  • They are flexible – they give you so many different ways to offer services that are easy to deliver, and that clients will pay for.
  • Use them to increase the value of your programs and trainings, by offering them as a bonus.
  • Get a specific result FAST.
  • Increase your credibility and status as an expert.
  • Make more for your time.
  • A VIP Day is something that’s easy for clients to say yes to.

What is a VIP Day?

It is concentrated time – just one day – with one person (or a group), focusing on a specific topic with very structured content.

A VIP Day can go in-depth on your topic, or you can do an overview. You have the time to deep-dive and co-create with your client(s) in a way that is magical and transformational.

VIP Days can be in person or virtual. Each has its benefits.Continue Reading

‘Charge What You’re Worth’ – is it B****S**T?

October 21, 2014 by admin

If you’ve been around me for a while, you’ve heard me talk about how to charge what you’re worth and get it. You may have heard the phrase “charge what you’re worth” in lots of other places, too. It’s a particularly juicy topic for women. We often over-deliver and under-charge, and can have a hard time raising our fees when we need to.

I re-read an article by Tad Hargrave on this recently, and it helped me clarify my thinking on the subject. The title? “Why ‘Charging What You’re Worth’ Is Bullshit.

It is, of course, a great title. As I read the article, what he’s calling into question is not so much charging appropriately (he acknowledges many coaches and entrepreneurs need to charge more), as the sense of entitlement some people develop about charging high fees, and the equating of one’s worth as a person with the fees they charge.
